Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Genetically, they are very heterogeneous according the somatic mutations they acquired over years and decades during their evolution within the host.
Together with members of the Pathology of the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Luebeck we study the functional biology small cell lung cancer initiation and progression with focus on bioinformatic analysis of high throughput data.
As part of the Molecular Pathological Tumor Board at the Oncology Centre of the UKSH, Campus Lübeck we support the identification of personal somatic mutations of each cancer patient with the goal of finding a personalized treatment. The translation of multi-omics analyses into treatment decisions is discussed in molecular tumor boards (MTB), which consist of oncologists, pathologists, and bioinformaticians.
