Position and Responsibilities
Scientific Profile
- Verónica Calonga Solís graduated in Genetics (2013) at the National University of Misiones (Argentina), and performed her Bachelor thesis at the Population and Landscape Genetics Group, studying the genetic diversity of a native tree species from South America. Afterwards she did her Master and Doctoral studies in Geneticsat the Laboratory of Human Molecular Genetics (LGMH) from the Federal University of Paraná (Brazil). During her Master’s degree she characterized the genetic diversity of immunoglobulin constant genes in Brazilian populations. Part of her doctoral research focused on polymorphisms implicated in immunoglobulin development and their association with differential susceptibility to pemphigus foliaceus, a multifactorial autoimmune disease of the skin. Additionally, during an international exchange at the Medical Systems Biology Group (UzL) she studied the immunoglobulin repertoire in the context of pemphigus foliaceus.
- Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher working jointly with the Medical Systems Biology (UzL) group, led by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Hauke Busch, and the Experimental Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Section (UzL) and the Department of Paediatrics (UKSH) led by Prof. Dr. med. Olaf Hiort and Dr. rer. nat. Ralf Werner. Her main research investigates genes and genetic variants implicated in sex development, by whole exome/genome and RNA sequencing analyses in individuals with differences in sexual development (DSD).
