As part of the Medical Systems Biology group Michael Kohl is working in the framework of the KI-Med ecosystem currently being developed in Lübeck and is responsible in particular for the comprehensive reanalysis of medical genome data.
Michael Kohl studied biology and German philology in Tübingen and Karlsruhe. He received his PhD in Agricultural Sciences at the Kiel University (CAU). The topic of the thesis was the development of a mathematical model to describe the dynamics of root system architecture and nutrient uptake of barley.
Afterwards he started as Bioinformatician at the Medizinisches Proteom Center (MPC) at the University in Bochum. Main focus at the MPC was analysis of proteomics data and development of workflows and algorithms especially for targeted proteomics. During collaboration in various interdisciplinary projects, he developed a new research interest in integrating various related omics data sets especially by applying machine learning techniques. In October 2020 he moved to Lübeck. Since then, his work concerns particularly integration of additional omics datasets and clinical variables into the analysis.
Currently, he is part of the Group for Medical Systems Biology lead by Prof. Hauke Busch and additionally of the Section for Translational Surgical Oncology & Biobanking lead by Prof. Timo Gemoll.
